BJS and NCES Propose Revision to the NCVS School Crime Supplement Data Collection

Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJSP and National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Propose Revision to National Crime Victimization Survey  School Crime Supplement Data Collection
BJS is encouraging comments from the public and affected agencies on proposed revisions to the School Crime Supplement (SCS) of the National Crime Victimization Survey. The 60-day comment period runs through Aug. 14, 2014. Written comments should address one or more of these points:

  1. Evaluate whether the collection is necessary to BJS and will have practical utility.
  2. Evaluate the accuracy of the estimated public burden.
  3. Evaluate how to enhance the quality, utility and clarity of information
  4. Suggest ways to minimize the burden for respondents.

More details can be found in BJS’s information collection request to the Office of Management and Budget, published in the Federal Register, The SCS survey, a joint effort between BJS and NCES, has been conducted annually since 1989 to collect additional information about school-related victimizations at the national level. The most recent findings from the survey are available in Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2013.
